PROBLEM OF PRACTICE: Exploring the Implementation of Math Structures at Washington GT Elementary
For this Problem of Practice, I was exploring how teachers were implementing the math structure that they agreed to utilize this year. Over the summer, the math coach worked with teachers to determine what would be the best math structure for using a new online platform, Dreambox, and using small group instruction and collaborative learning. The purpose of this math structure was to provide students multiple ways to learn math. Through teacher interviews, surveys and student surveys, I was able to gather what the best parts of the math instruction were according to student and teacher perception, as well as, determine the impact of math instruction based on NC Check-In scores, report card grades, and time on Dreambox. Feedback from students, teachers, and our math coach helped to guide recommendations for the math structure and instruction for the 2020-2021 school year.
